Yes - we DO get pulled over from time to time by Police & VOSA (the govt dept that controls vehicles etc) roadside checks - but more likely it would be added to the annual test - already any cracks or deterioration in a tyre will mean your car fails the test. PS Even smartphones have an OFF switch ....
