OK this has gone too far, you need a fix LOL. There is a transfer case control module in the 98. It's under the dash I have actually seen one of mine but it was way up there and a while ago. It doesn't normally cause problems, but from your description it could be that since you have checked your switch and replaced the motor it is kind of the next step.
