As long as the little pill looking thing in the back of the key is talking with the ring around the front of the lock cylinder there should be no problem.

Does it eventually start? I didn't look at the rest of the lights just the theft light. It will be dark by the time I get home or I would do a video.

Then again 8 years might make a difference too mine is a 2000 but it is starting to sound like a pats problem.

A worn key wouldn't do it I don't think unless a small portion at the end was snapped off.
