You probably know this and thats why you took the explorer keys far away. If you break the key with the transponder but have a door key that turns the tumbler, you can stack the transponder key on the other and it will start. You only need the transponder key to start it. Once it's running it will stay running.

I had heard that there were only about 100 different ignition keys for ford. I locked myself out of my 99 ranger. Keys were on the seat. I asked the first guy I saw with a ford truck if he could try his key and it worked!! A couple other times after that I wasnt so lucky.
