yes get the front d shaft The t case is likely fine with only 150K on it, they are TOUGH You do not have to use a 96-97 5.0 4r70w only, you can use 98-01 also. In fact I prefer the 98+ model it was upgraded quite a bit from the 96, the wiring changes from 96-98 are super easy. Basically the 96 model 4r70w had 3 power wires that enter the side of the trans, one for each solenoid.
