I have always owned manual transmission trucks, so I've never had one.  I don't mind the cold too much though, so I don't feel like I've missed out on much.  I will be interested in what you come up with.
Same here as far as manual transmission vehicles, I've only had 2 out of 11 vehicles, actually maybe that's 12 now that didn't have a remote start. You can do a remote start on a manual transmission, the only thing you have to keep in mind is one of two things. 1, you need to do some type of safety feature to let the remote start know that the vehicle is out of gear, that would be the best option. However, for some of us who have learned the lesson, we get used to not parking with a vehicle in gear. The reason being, if the vehicles remote started while it's in gear it will take off down the road or into the nearest object it may be parked in front of whether that be a wall trash can, another parked car, or worse the potential group of people. Now, I've had that situation occur where I am most launched my 95 Ford Escort through the front doors of 7-Eleven with my now ex-wife in the passenger seat.. damn, I guess I missed that opportunity. Anyway,  at the very least, you should make a feature on/off switch somewhere so if you have multiple people driving it, they may not have the same habits.

Also, one thing to note on the manual trans, if your insurance agent isn't a friend of the family, they may drop you because of the liabilities you will create.
