I don't think Tsquare is referring to hammer bite, but grip bite, shape/angle etc with the type of impulse recoil that calibre exhibits.
You got it right.
An no, gloves do not help. The 10mm is a very hard hitting caliber and you will need hands of steel to shoot a 1911 in 10mm on a regular basis.
