My new shotgun's capacity finally bugged me to the point of doing something about it. I kept reading that the model 12 held 7 shells, six in the tube and one in the chamber. However, I couldn't get more than five in the tube. While not a big deal, it bothered me because that wasn't correct. I suppose now it should have been obvious what the problem was.

That dent was impeding the follower from moving back far enough, thus eliminating the sixth round from it's capacity.

I took it apart (took photos, too) and luckily we had a broom handle that was just the right size. Unfortunately the wood was not hard enough (stop laughing) to push the dent out. We dug around and found an 11/16 socket whose overall diameter was a perfect push fit into the tube. Driving that through took a lot of it out, but still not enough to allow the follower to move freely.

Lucky for me, my dad used to be involved in bodywork before I came around. We shoved the socket behind the dent and with a few wraps of black tape and some creative tapping, we got it 95% fixed. It'll never be 100%, but that's okay. It isn't grade A and never will be. Also, take a look at the tightening adjustment. If I'm looking at it right, I scored big time.
