So I'm replacing a cam synch on a 3.0 today.

I've done one. I didn't use the tool. I lined it up where it was in relation to the notch, tightened it down, the thing ran great and still does.

Then again I have over 30 years in machining.

Has anyone had a problem doing it this way, does everyone bother putting it at TDC? I've found the crank marker to be not exactly at TDC especially on the 4 cyl where the marker is plastic.

To verify TDC you would have to literally pull plug #1 and use an indicator IMO.

Doesn't it electronically compensate for mild adjustments in timing?
