I used WD40 and a toothbrush to clean it with, then lubricated with oil. I never use oil itself to clean. I find it does a crap-tastic job of it. WD40 however I find it cheaper than actual gun cleaners, works just as well, and I can get it anywhere. Stuff practically melts carbon away.
