IN my single cab Ranger, I used the slider all the time. Open it, open the side windows some, incredible air flow. Truck didn't have AC either. In my super cab Ranger I don't use it as much just because it's a little harder to get to. It is just like in my Mustang, Turn the wing vent all the way around, you will never see better air flow outside of two wheels.
I never worried about the theft option as I never leave anything visible in the truck. And I park by more expensive vehicles!
I do not always use my A/C & like stated the rear slider works great to add to the air circulation in the cab. I also do not worry about the theft option with the rear slider as I leave nothing of value in the truck & if anyone wants to steal it is always unlocked anyway.
