You will have an "easier" time with the swap if you can find a 2wd donor, it already has the transmission you need for the swap. Wish I had known that when I entered in to mine, but I was able to find a 4r70w 2wd trans out of a 96 explorer that matched the electronics on the 97 mountaineer I took the motor from. Much more expensive route than getting the complete donor as a 2wd.

I may go with an f150 or Mustang manual aND have the computer returned. But that sounds easier for sure. Thanks.
