Maybe the sports and FX4 did have 31 splines lets do some more digging. I was told they never did, so we shall see! I was also told that Ford never sold a 4.0L BII and then I have seen two of them in the years since then that were indeed factory 1990 Bronco II's with a factory 4.0 so....lots of things are possible. I know the late model FX4 transmission and t case shifter boots are worth a bunch of $$$ on ebay if you can find them which tells me they did indeed come with a manual t case. I guess as I start doing more and more Rangers this will all clear up, I have been doing Explorers for the last 10 years while my stepsons did the rangers, now we are all doing them together. I was told by them that no late models had the large tube 8.8 and I believe them but by no means are we the authority or anything we just do our little piece of the pie
