Prior to changing my fuel pump I put 14 gallons in when the light turned on. After changing to the new fuel pump I now put 14.6 gallons when the light turns on. Somewhere in the process I bent the pickup that provides the signal to the light. It sounds like you did too, but you bent it a bit further than I did. I try to fill up at 1/8 to 1/4 of a tank. I have the smaller 16.5 gallon tank as well.
