Everybody is out of warranty! Seriously, we are all a bunch of guys that do most of the work on our vehicles and think twice about taking it to someone else. I've got a 2013 Explorer so I stay on the explorer forum (2011-2018 section) a lot and it's like every post is along the lines of "My 2017 model has this issue. Do you know what the problem is?". I usually take a stab at it and suggest something and it always ends with something like "Well I'm just gonna take it to the dealer since it's under warranty" WHY THE HELL DO YOU ASK IF YOU ARE JUST GONNA TAKE IT TO THE DEALER!?!?!?! One guy had an issue with his A/C and I quickly diagnosed it as the ambient temp sensor. Given the conditions I asked him to look at the outside temp reading and it was -40 degrees (or --- , I forget). Knew the sensor had an open circuit and I've already seen a few Explorers with the sensor ripped off. So I had him check the lower bumper and sure enough the sensor was ripped off. Found the part number of the sensor and pigtail for him and told him how to fix it. Jackass comes back a couple days later and says he paid the dealer something like $250 to fix it. I spent time out of my day to help someone and try to save them money and they go off and do that. Sorry I was extremely irritated for that. Little rant over.
