When I had the retail store, I had a bad habit of drinknig soda all day long. Like 10-12 cans daily.. Switching to water made a huge difference in how I felt, including like you noted, my attitude.
I typically do not eat McD, but there is something about McRibs that I do tend to get 2 to 3 of them when they are avail. It must be all the drugs they mix into the meat...
AM/PM has a pork sandwich that looks like McRib, but it defiantly is not the same...

good for you..! Seriously, I had a similar issue. I think from about age 17-18 Mt. Dew was the drug of choice up until my early 30's. Literally I drank in excess of about three 2L a day myself. Plus the occasional Sweet tea from tradewinds.. you know the one..
So far been Soda free since 2005'ish with only the occasional theres nothing else here to drink while being out... But a can of soda every 4-6 months didnt make me fall of the wagon per say but you do bring up a valuable point too - Its a KNOWN FACT that there are additives and chemicals that MAKE you crave more of it and Soda is definitely one of those along with Fast Food.

What really set my mind in it was I noticed that with fast food or even just   comfort foods, I'd be hungry 2 hrs later for NO reason at all. Make and eat a home cooked meal or grill up some grub for a few days of meals and I could easily go 4-5 hours or until the next meal time without junking out if you will.

But admittingly, When I did go to McD's id always get 2 McDbls; NO mustard, NO ketchup, EXTRA pickles, ADD Mac Sauce.. BAM $1.79 Big Macs without the middle pc of bread !!! ;)

$5.79 Hamburger my ASS ! :verymad
