WOW!

In defense of some forum posts, there is actually a single combination of Ranger and 5.0 Expo that is essentially bolt in/plug and play for the main wiring.

Yes, it's an AWD 5.0 going into a 4WD V6 Ranger, if I remember correctly, 98 into 98.

Same PATS, same fuel system and pressures, even the engine mounts and mounting plates. A/C control logic, the 42 pin connector. All but the starter cabling.

That's it! Any deviation from the list and it's into custom work, wiring mods, fuel system mods and the list goes on.

Worse, the list of "custom" is unique for nearly every build. There are three distinct wiring harness pinouts for the 5.0 Expos, and between '97 and '04, 5 different harness pinouts for the Rangers!

The 2.5 Rangers have the advantage of having a speed signal coming from the GEM via the ABS system, solves some issues, but since the 2.5 does not have PATS, adds other issues.

There was a great article on RangerPowerSports on the conversion, but that forum is now long gone. There's a different article in the Tech Library of TheRangerStation, but its hard to find.

All in all, very doable conversion, but takes a lot of research for each and every build.
