One of my first attempts at restoring a vehicle was a '52 F-2 that had a locked up 6 cylinder and a rotted bed back in the early 80's. My doner vehicle was a 80 Grand Marquis that had been rolled that I acquired at a police auction for $175. The only items that I was able to salvage was the engine, EOD tranny, and steering column. The seat I thought I was going to be able to use was too wide and the rear axle was bent. I was able to part out enough of the Marquis to get my $175 back. When I wasn't working on the truck I was scouring the junkyards for parts. It cost about 3 years, 1 longtime friendship, and about $9k to get a decent looking, dependable truck.
