If you get a low round count HP in original condition it will need some tweaking. The trigger is horrible because of the magazine disconnect. If you remove the magazine disconnect and polish the trigger mechanism it can be tuned to where it works very well but it a PIA to get it as good as a 1911. Another area I did not like is that the hammer spur will make contact with your hand because of the high grip. Many people shave it down or change it out with a bobbed hammer. The feed ramp on the HP barrel also doesn't play well with hollow point ammo. This can be corrected with a throating job. Unless it was NIB I would also do a re-spring on it. A Wolf spring kit is about $20. Most issues with HPs are that it is dirty way down deep inside or spring related. A full disassembly and deep clean with a spring kit would keep it trouble free. There was a change in the sights in the 80's. The newer sights are much better than the older ones. The HP I had was a late 50's. On an HP I would not consider a clone. The FN HP is the only one I would get. Also only use FN magazines or MecGar. Sometimes the lips on MecGar mags have to be filed down a little. Don't use plastic magazines as they usually have a short life.
