The PTR 91 is actually the clone I was referring to, but since I have never heard anyone mention it anywhere else, I thought nobody would know what I was talking about if I said "PTR 91" instead of "G3 clone". I'm not really all that big on Walther, to be honest. The P22 we have here is a fun handgun to shoot, but I personally have no interest in buying another walther of any sort. The two choices I have for 380 is a little complicated. I've wanted a Makarov for a while, but I prefer the selection of .380 ammo over 9x18 Makarov ammo. I like variety. I happened to find the 84FS while seeing what else Beretta had to offer, and I like the way that handgun looks, not necessarily for what it's chambered in. Having both of those in the same caliber makes storage easier, as I don't have to have one caliber (9x18) that nothing else in my collection takes. To my knowledge, nothing else in any mainstream way takes 9x18 either. Having the two pistols share the same common caliber is a convenience measure, really. As far as calibers go, I haven't actually bought a gun specifically for what it's chambered in. More often than not I've bought the guns I have because I like them in it of themselves. The one exception to this rule will be something chambered for 300 Blackout. I don't see myself getting more than one suppressor in my life, and if I ever do it seems that I'd get the most bang for my buck (pardon the pun) out of a blackout than most other calibers. On that same note, I'm wanting to build/buy a rifle that would be well suited to deer hunting, but not something I couldn't afford to target shoot with. I have a lot of family up north that enjoy deer hunting and guns alike, so I can reasonably expect to find myself tagging along at some point. I've kind of got a mental check list going on of features that I want, which some firearms on my list manage to achieve. I assure you, there is a method to my madness. I just haven't found it yet. I'm just beginning my research, but I'm thinking I can tick off a few checks with one rifle. Scoped centerfire Bolt action 300 blackout Deer-capable ...that is of course if 300 blackout is a suitable cartridge for that purpose. The three calibers I have in mind for this rifle, whatever it winds up being (likely a 700), are 30-06, .308, and the aformentioned .300 blackout. My thought proccess thus far has reasonably concluded the following for my specific case. With 30-06, I've already got a rifle chambered for that cartridge, so storage already exists for it. Care would need to be taken as not to accidently load a higher power cartridge into the M1, but that shouldn't be a big deal. With 308, there's no worry for an accident, but I don't have storage for it currently so that means more space and higher cost to run. From what I've read, 30-06 and .308 seem to be pretty equal with no clear winner between the two. With 300 Blackout, I would not only tick off one of my check boxes, but that also opens up effective suppression. I realize .308 can also be suppressed, but it seems that blackout can be much more effectively suppressed. It also seems a shorter barrel can be employed in the case of blackout vs .308, which implys better manuverability. Not sure what I'll wind up with yet, and it'll be a while anyway so I have time to think and ponder over it.
