The mechanical rod and level worked for years, I used to rebuild or change engines and transmissions so often the mechanical rod and lever linkage was worked great always adjusted.

Only trouble was when things stretched and I don't mean the linkage, if you weren't ahead of of the motor mounts getting old, the engine would torque up, motor mounts let the engine lift... linkage would fall out. The fix was easy, new motor mounts would work but a chain or Turn-buckle from the block to the frame held things in place; then of course solid mounts... do I feel vibrations !

The biggest problem I encounter with hydraulics is the bleeding of the system, should be something easier than pulling the complete clutch actuation system out and bleeding on the bench.
