I agree 100% with buying a built crate engine from Coast or Ford
I used a GT40 302 engine from ATK making 370 HP worked out excellent

You will need to sort out intakes, electronics, and dress as well as wiring and plumbing. Good idea to get explorer donor.
Make sure you are buying the correct FSB engine if you are going explorer based, the explorer 5.0 is externally balanced GT40, the earlier style will not work here, not with the explorer crank damper and flywheel.
We ordered a 302 (370hp) performance crate engine built up with the GT40 style lower intake, dual sump oil pan and gt40 balance/firing order then outfitted it with all the goodies from a 99 Explorer (intakes, front dress, sensors, manifolds, plumbing etc). We stuck with 302 displacement for our built in an effort to try and keep some sort of fuel mileage. It worked. End result is a 84 Ranger 4x4 that gets 18 mpg but makes well over 300 HP
I will be using a similar engine, this time a 331 for my 1988 Bronco II
is this the engine you bought? it says 365hp, but im not sure what all of the technical specs mean. again, im new to this sorta. and what all would i need to order (besides a trans) to bolt up a manual 5 speed? i know a flywheel, bellhousing, but idk anything else or if im right. thanks for your help.
