Still, it pays to check them both before ordering. Both Jegs and Summit give a small but welcome "racer's discount" if you can prove you have a race license. Jegs also extends this courtesy to military and veterans (again, proof required). When I asked Summit about a veteran's discount, they said their policy is racers only. So, if you're military or ex, score one for Jegs. Consider the cost of freight too. I bought a transmission through Jegs and it was drop shipped directly from Ford Racing (FRPP) at a good price but shipping was free. The exact same trans through Jegs but from another source was more because there was no free freight. And Summit wanted to charge freight regardless of the source. Same story for a FRPP 302 block. Even though the 'street price' of the block itself is comparable, the free freight from Jegs/FRPP makes the difference. Chalk up one more for Jegs. I like and use both Summit and Jegs but I give preference to whichever wins for total price, selection and discounts. Lately, Jegs has been running a bit ahead for me. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Instead of buying a crate engine and then buying add-on speed parts, you might consider buying a turnkey engine already modified. Ford Racing and others offer many levels of displacement and tune and should be able to supply just what you're looking for. Any 302 should fit better in the Ranger engine compartment if equipped with a complete Explorer 5.0 FEAD (front end accessory drive) designed to be shorter front-to-back than other 302's. This FEAD also coordinates well with Ranger A/C, power steering, etc.
