You got that right about 2 vehicles of the same make model and configuration getting vastly different fuel mileage. I bought a new '88 Thunderbird Turbo Coupe. I had a cousin that had also gotten an 88 T-bird TC. Both cars had the same rear axle with auto transmission. I got 18-20 city mileage and about 24-25 on the highway. Most of my driving was highway. My cousin had a 35 mile commute of back country roads to work and was getting in the upper 40's on mpg on average. I convinced my cousin to swap cars for a week. She got 24-25 mpg in my car. I got over 40 with hers. Everything was "right" in that car's engine.
