The tires were replaced with new ones because he wanted a different tread design. Sounds stupid to me, but some people do that. My brother in law is OK with this guy, and he is essentially giving them to me out of generosity. Just like I give things to people that I don't use. Example: Lawn mower that is 3 years old and only used sparingly. Someone had a need, I had the solution. Have done this with motorcycles, bicycles, furniture, etc. Seems it gets paid back eventually when I am in need. Some call it karma, I call it living as I was taught by my parents and the preacher in church.
A lot of people do it and tires are sold as take offs.
We pit about 30k on our 2015 tahoe and I was in doing an oil change. Dealer had a set of brushed oem wheels(mine were chrome) with tires for $1000. Tires had 100-200 miles. Previous owner decided to go with 22s. I bought them, and sold my chrome wheels for 700. Bang, brand new tires for $300 bucks when theyre normally 1000+
