 Ford stated that their buyers like outdoor activities and prefer cross overs/SUVs. They then tried to site GM's reduction in car production as the segment dying off.

Personally, I think they are giving up trying to fight the import control of the mid-size and compact car market. They are moving the money into hybrid truck development.
