I had a '98, and I don't think they come on for service intervals. Maybe someone else can chime in here as well. I'm not familiar with the tester you mentioned, does it show you the OBD2 trouble codes? My understanding is that a trouble code is the only thing to set the CEL off. If your tester doesn't, most auto parts stores will scan for codes for you, and in some places either reset them, or let you reset it while they 'look away'...
