Something I'm also considering buying is a 4x32 Trijicon ACOG. Would someone help me justify the price of that thing? I want one but I'm having trouble taking the plunge.
While ACOGs are nice, another 4x red dot will do the same thing. At only 4x, the glass doesn't have to be the "best of the best". Vortex makes 3x (spitfire?) that seems pretty nice at 1/4 of the cost of an ACOG. If you're going for looks, Bushnell makes a red dot that's a wanna be ACOG but I think it's only a 1x.
For an ideal AR build with high quality stuff on it, if I had the money I'd get an ACOG. I can't justify it though. I have a Vortex Strikefire II (1x) that has red and green dot capability and it's actually pretty nice. I think they make it in a 2x as well.
ACOGs are awesome, if you have the money I say go for it! They look and perform great.
