Don't rule out the shady used car dealerships either. On rare occasions they have some some decent vehicles. You end up apying a premium for them though. JAMMAN wrote: Tony mentioned the rust but I would have if he hadn't covered it. Rust is pretty bad even down this far (I'm south of columbus) but I too have seen decent rangers here and have even bought a couple. To get something he doesn't have to work on right away he might have to wait and gather more money. There seems to be a severe class jump right around 3K Thanks guys, The boys budget was a concern, hes going to need insurance and all the other excise tax BS, at 16 he's only learned to stand his ground with schoolmates and his Mother telling him to clean his room. He's not mentally nor physically equipped to deal with the hassles I've dealt with and mostly to be left alone about it so far more. So I didn't want the boys whole budget going into the vehicle and not leave anything left for him to use afterwards. Also, I am amazed at how many Ford Rangers got the 18k gold I/P brace and supports. Seems a lot of Rangers NOT in the rust belt go for quite a bit less on this side of the world so this may be why I am shocked I can't find something as I stated from my original posting. Interesting... I could easily triple [or a bit more] a West coast truck back East on the selling block. crazy Mike69 wrote: You can also check out cars.com, you enter the year, make, model of the vehicle you are looking for, how far from your area you want to look to, your zip code, & how much you want to spend up to & the hit the search button & they will find if there are any matches. L found the Ranger I have now at a dealer about 1 hour away from me. Mike, I tried your suggestion.. my laptop started laughing at me and then shut down and restarted. As I stated to the boys above. $2200-2500 is pretty average for a 95-2001'ish Ranger near me. 2WD or 4WD is a bit more of a crap shoot depending on the timing but. All the boy needs is 4WD, 4.0l, and a tow package which it should with those two options. Anything else can be added on and upfitted. He's into the camping and Kayaking thing so he will likely want to be able to go farther too find new activities, 4WD would get him there better. He does have some time so, something will Pop up.
