Anyone using a remote starter? Been looking at a bunch, they are all over the map as far as price goes.

just depends on what your willing to pay for in convenience features.

You can find what we termed as Driveway Starters for $99-119 all day. BUT.....

It doesn't flash lights, doesn't do door locks, doesn't have an alarm, it comes with one remote, 50 ft of range and runs for 20 mins and is usually susceptible to ALL FCC interference's.

You start adding up relays/modules/KEY bypasses, and the labor costs for such items like door locks, light flash, ignition interrupts, 2 remotes, 1/4 mile range, trunk release (not in a truck application but you could do a tailgate lock actuator so the tailgate locks/unlocks with the doors), any additional AUX features you can imagine from rear defroster to headlight delays and it adds up quick.

By the time all is said done, you can turn a $99 shopper into a $479 buyer real quick.

I have always owned manual transmission trucks, so I've never had one. I don't mind the cold too much though, so I don't feel like I've missed out on much. I will be interested in what you come up with.

I get it, Vipers competition Boa! That is awesome.
I should make my own and call it Python.

Would probably end up Garter.

you both will you both will be quite surprised that those are also both d e i products. If it's named after a snake or an insect it's likely a d e i product already. Python was technically the upper line, Viper was the middle line, and boa is a replacement name for what used to be the lower line if I recall.. it's all like I said before really what do you want it to do feature-wise?

Same here as far as manual transmission vehicles, I've only had 2 out of 11 vehicles, actually maybe that's 12 now that didn't have a remote start. You can do a remote start on a manual transmission, the only thing you have to keep in mind is one of two things. 1, you need to do some type of safety feature to let the remote start know that the vehicle is out of gear, that would be the best option. However, for some of us who have learned the lesson, we get used to not parking with a vehicle in gear. The reason being, if the vehicles remote started while it's in gear it will take off down the road or into the nearest object it may be parked in front of whether that be a wall trash can, another parked car, or worse the potential group of people. Now, I've had that situation occur where I am most launched my 95 Ford Escort through the front doors of 7-Eleven with my now ex-wife in the passenger seat.. damn, I guess I missed that opportunity. Anyway,  at the very least, you should make a feature on/off switch somewhere so if you have multiple people driving it, they may not have the same habits.

Also, one thing to note on the manual trans, if your insurance agent isn't a friend of the family, they may drop you because of the liabilities you will create.

Was aware of the DEI/ Directed affiliation with viper but did not know about python LOL that was a joke.

I have a Directed 535T for my windows, going to just manually wire it... power/ground/switches/motors no "GEM" involved. I think the wrong GEM is in there anyway I'm getting a window relay code and it doesn't currently have power windows. Doesn't surprise me since the RCM was from an explorer and was looking for external sensors.

I'm amazed more ranger owners don't install a 535T. I probably won't do a write up since I'm bypassing all normal wiring.

That Directed 535T unit is a nice option. I'll have to remember it when I finally find the first gen doors I'm looking for.

LOL, Yea, not sure Jim just through that into the conversation in an odd manner it seems.. ahahahahahah

But a DEI 535 T is basically a 2-4 Window up/Down module meaning, you can roll all your windows down at the push of a button or vent them. typically most of the time when wired up, when you ARM the cars Alarm - All the windows will roll up when ARMED.

I've had to use them to make Sunroofs open and close too. Purpose? Hot days, vent the windows from your home, office, as your walking up to it at the mall.. etc..  Here is a peek into it

Just proof I was actually familiar with DEI and didn't just claim I knew something just to sound cool. I actually own one of their more popular products.

The Viper starters/door lock systems (original subject) interface with the 535T (injected subject) and will roll your windows up when you lock your doors/arm the alarm. Being they are the same parent company of course they should work together.

I don't plan on doing that, I keep my windows rolled up all the time which I guess is unusual because at work when it starts raining unexpectedly half the place clears out running to their cars to roll the windows up.

I just like it for tapping the button and getting the window to do what you want by itself. Senseless to have to hold a button for anything.

Remote starting is really not needed but I want a long range keyless entry and there is only a happy meal worth of money in price between a keyless entry and a remote starter. I didn't see one remote starter that did not include keyless entry.

Long time project, I got the last puzzle piece today.

This should take care of pats and is already confirmed to work with the kit I bought.

Wow did I post about the kit I got for Christmas? Old age.
